Long standing Griffith event La Festa has been named a finalist in the Festivals and Events category of the Inland NSW Tourism Awards, which will be hosted in Griffith on July 27.
Managed by a volunteer community committee, with support from a professional event manager, La Festa has undergone major change over the past five years. This award is recognising the hard work and commitment that the committee and community has put in through this change, celebrating the life of La Festa.
“La Festa has a long standing history in the Griffith community, dating back to 1956 as the Waterwheel Festival. The committees over the years have put in an immense amount of work to get it where it is today. It is time to thank these people and to provide La Festa with the recognition it deserves,” commented La Festa Chairman Doug Curran.
On July 26, La Festa will come up against the Tamworth Country Music Festival in the Festivals and Events category.
“I will not lie, our competition is strong! Tamworth has won many awards and has done great things, however there is no reason why La Festa cannot be doing the same thing. We can learn a lot from this process”.
“We will attend the award ceremony with an open mind, and if things do not go our way we will cheer for Tamworth. For our committee it is exciting to be named a finalist the first time we enter. We are very proud of this accolade” said Mr Curran.
The Inland NSW Tourism Awards ceremony will be held at the Ex Services Club and is open to the public. Those wishing to cheer on La Festa can find out further details and book tickets at www.inlandtourismawards.com.au
